If you are an existing user of DragThing 2, all you need to do to upgrade to DragThing 4 is double-click the application. DragThing 4 will automatically find and update your preferences file, which includes all your docks and settings.
If you are not sure about upgrading to DragThing 4, you might want to make a copy of your preferences file beforehand, because once it has been updated, it will no longer work with DragThing 2. DragThing 4 will remind you of this and give you a chance to quit before it updates the file however.
When you want to remove your old copy of DragThing, just make sure you haven't left any settings files in the old "DragThing Settings" folder before you drag it to the Trash.
Why Upgrade?
DragThing 4 represents the biggest change to DragThing since the original shareware release of DragThing 2 over four years ago. Aside from the obvious support for Mac OS X and Carbon, you will find many great new features have been added and the user interface has been completely rewritten. I hope you will like it!
To help pay for future development of DragThing, this new version costs US $10 to upgrade from previous versions of DragThing 2, and US $25 for new users.
This is the first time I've charged for an upgrade since the original release back in 1997, but since this represents over a year of my work, I hope you can understand. I now work full time writing Macintosh software for my company TLA Systems Ltd. which employs both myself and my wife Saskia. By upgrading or registering DragThing you are helping support a small independent company to make great Macintosh-only software. Help us keep doing it, and we'll write the best software we can in return.
How to Upgrade
If you've previously registered DragThing via Kagi, upgrading is very similar. You can either visit my online ordering page at
http://order.kagi.com/?6B
to securely pay online via your credit card and other payment methods, or use the enclosed Register application to register via email or postal mail. See the "How to Register" document for more of the details.
Please note that if you order the DragThing 4 Upgrade, you will be given a special upgrade serial number which also requires your original DragThing 2 serial number to be entered before it will work.
If you can't find your old number or can't remember if you registered before, let me know at the address below and I'll look it up for you. If you don't have an existing DragThing 2 serial number, the upgrade serial number won't be of any use, and you should order the full registration serial number instead.
If you have any questions, just get in touch with me personally at james.t@kagi.com.
